Review of Pixy Hiyori

Posted by ELTboy on January 22, 2009

My next subject of review is the beautiful Pixy Hiyori figure by Good Smile Company. She is a 1/8 scale figure and hails from the eorge, Chu x Chu Idol. To date, she is my 5th figure from UnisonShift’s eroge. I do not play the eroges, but I like their character designs very much. Pixy Hiyori happens to be a kind hearted girl who is also the manager of the idol, Chua Churam.

Before I begin, please note that this is a review on a figure with full cast-off features. Thus, minors please refrain from continuing.

Review of Pixy Hiyori

The thing with this Pixy Hiyori figure is that she already looked like a casted off figure even with all of her outfit intact. When taking the photos, I felt like I was engaging in some sorta erotic photoshoot, especially after casting her off. ^^”. But while she is made to be erotic, as expected of a character from an eroge, she really is a beautiful figure which hopefully you can see from this review.

I will follow my usual format of review, so first up is an all round look at the figure.

As mentioned, Pixy Hiyori doesn’t have much clothings on and there is a generous amount of skin exposure. While that does make her somewhat provocative, there is a sense of sophistication to the figure even with her minimal outfit. She is a very beautiful figure to look at. The only downside to the figure is the lack of support for her left leg while makes her slightly vulnerable stability-wise.

Next are close-ups of her face and pumpkin hat.

Love the sparkling eyes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a magnetic attraction between Pixy Hiyori’s head and the hat. This makes attachment and adjustment of the hat very easy. Thumbs-up to Good Smile Company for this feature. Perhaps, all figures with head ornaments in the future should adopt this approach. On the other side, I couldn’t understand why her hair strands came separate from the figure though. By the way, I realised after the shoot that her left strand should be placed under her arm but I am too lazy to do a re-shoot.

Next is a close-up look at Hiyori’s outfit.

Her outfit is similar to Melissa Seraphy’s outfit, except that hers is more skimpy. And while Melissa has an oversized pumpkin to protect her modesty, Hiyori is practically laid bare except for her “last line of defence” at her crotch. But I like it … kudos to the character designer for the outfit … ^_^

Next are close-ups look at her legs and figure base.

Nice dainty shoes she has on. The base is slightly translucent and is pretty much similar to Chu Chu Astram’s and Melissa Seraphy’s base in terms of the design concept.

And off comes the outfit …

Surprisingly, the cast-off for Pixy Hiyori is easily done. As I have mentioned countless times during my reviews, I hate to do cast-off on my figures. I am so afraid of hurting them while I take off their clothings. Wait a minute … that sounds kinda weird. God … what am I thinking?!

Anyway, here are a flood of photos of Hiyori in the buff, saved for her last line of defence.

Hiyori looks delightful here. Her skin is rather pale, but Good Smile Company does a wonderful job in the shading of her skin. It might not be obvious  here though as I had some difficulty in sustaining the amount of lighting during the photoshoot. By the way, allow me to divert a bit … I am a novice photographer, so would certainly appreciate a few pointers from seasoned photographers on the amout of light and exposure appropriate for such a indoor figure photoshoot. I used 3 lighting source and still find them inadequate …*sigh*… is it the positioning?

Good Smile Company's Pixie Hiyori

Overall, she is a really delightful figure and one that is very pleasing to the eyes. Frankly speaking, the figure turned out much better than what I was expecting. Great job, Good Smile Company! Fans of beautiful bishoujo figures should be sure to get this one.

My next UnionShift eroge figure is personally highly anticipated … she is none other than Unity Mei from Unity Marriage. I felt in love with the figure once I saw her prototype. Hope she comes soon as my Unity Yuno is feeling kinda lonely now… ^^

    Nice pics and review :)

    I’ll be linking to your review today :)

    But yours is going to be oposite to mine , as i think the cast off is bad and the quality not that great ^^

    @Valho: She sure is cute. And her cast-off is one of the easiest ones that I have done.

    @James: Thanks! Why is the cast-off bad? Hmm… anyway will look forward to your review from another perspective then ^^.

    wow, had no idea about the detail in her eyes. very nice ^^ i should look more closely at prototypes before making my purchases ^^;;

    glad they have a hat magnet. nida from the shuraki releases really needed one ^^;

    i wish i could give some photography tips, but not only am i also a novice, i think your set up and skills already far exceed my own ^^; someday i swear i’m going to improve my lighting and backgrounds ^^;

    @Meronpan: I think the blue in the eyes made them look sparkling to me. I really need to improve on my photography fundamentals. Maybe we can exchange pointers every now and then. ^^

    Her eyes are some of my favorite painted eyes on a figure.

    Three light sources is way more than adequate. I used two lamps and a white paper reflector for my shots of Pixy, so three sources of light. Lighting is definitely a game of positioning and intensity to figure out just how much shadow to give.

    @Super Rats: Thanks on the advice. Now I know there is no problem on the amount of light source. So hopefully, as I do more photo shoots, I will gain more experience on the positioning and intensity.

    So very cute. It’s the first time in a long time that a figure’s breast isn’t as round as most figures are – well, I guess the figures that I’ve bought that had cast-off feature.

    She’s a very pretty picture and even though they are not in the same series, I think she would look cute next to Good Smile Melissa Seraphy. Great job on your review
