Review of Sawatari Makoto
Posted by ELTboy on April 26, 2009
I am in the mood to do a figure photoshoot but alas, there were no new figures available for review as my new ones are all still boxed in. Thus, I decided to do a photoshoot review of a figure who was released some time ago but who I only managed to acquire recently – Max Factory’s 1/8 scale Sawatari Makoto.

Sawatari Makoto is from the anime series, Kanon. I actually caught the 2006 re-make version of the anime late on, ages after the series was aired. By the time I finished and went looking for figures of the characters from the series, both figures of Makoto (and Ayu) were long sold out. While Ayu was easier to acquire, it took me quite a while to finally get Makoto. But she is certainly worth waiting for.
As usual, I started things off with looks at Makoto from different angles.
Note: You can click on the thumbnails to view larger images.
Makoto’s pose is adopted from the anime’s opening credits and Max Factory absolutely nailed it with this. It is always great when a figure is able to reflect and bring out the personality of the character or evoke certain memories from the anime. This figure brings out the cute and innocent nature of Makoto, although she will always be remembered by me as the girl who made me shed tears. ^^”
Next is a close-up look at Makoto’s face sculpt.
The face sculpt by Shinji Koshinuma is spot-on and her large blue eyes are beautiful. The flow and movement of Makoto’s twin tails and ribbons easily evokes that scene in the anime’s opening credits where Makoto stood in the grassland with the wind blowing across her. Sweet.
Next is a closer look at Makoto’s outfit.
Even though Makoto’s outfit is simple, I think it is wonderfully done. I like the folds and creases of her clothes and how they clings to the contours of her body. The shadings on both her jacket and sweet little black skirt are great too. Strangely, I love her dainty little hands. ^^”
Here are closer looks at her footwear and figure base.
She has a beautiful pair of socks and boots both of which are very nice and realistically sculpted. The details on the boots is especially wonderful and the folds look so natural. The figure base is white and has the anime title, Kanon, enscripted on it.
Overall, the figure sculpture is top quality. As usual, Max Factory delivers a wonderful paint job and I always love the vibrant colors they used for figures. This figure of Makoto is a perfect ten for me and THE figure to get for fans of the character and anime series.
And here is a shot of my Kanon girls by Max Factory, two of the best figures I have ever owned.

They look so sweet together. I wonder at times why Max Factory didn’t make any figures of Mai and Nayuki from Kanon as well. I would have love to add them to my collection. As it is, the only figures of them available are by Kotobukiya and some lesser figure companies. They are far inferior to the ones by Max Factory, but I might get the ones by Kotobukiya one day if only just to have the four girls together.

I am thinking of doing weekly reviews of older figures if I can afford the time.
Kanon was interesting to me since it was the first of that kinda genre that I watch. Hard to say who is my favorite among the girls, I think I like them all equally. ^^

Great! Im looking forward to those!
Im not really a fan of the genre and it included way too much magic for my taste. The other Girl I liked was the badass Ghosthunter Girl.Too bad she never became a figure.

The photo at the head of article is magnificent! Your review gives me envy(urge) to have Makoto in my collection to hold company Kanon:)
Thank you for your last comment on my site.

Thanks. I think you will make Makoto very beautiful if you do a photoshoot review of her. Your photos are my inspiration. I wish I had the talent to do those kind of setup and photos.

Even though Makoto’s not my favorite Kanon girl (that honor goes to Nayuki), this is a great figure and an amazing batch of photos. I’m kicking myself for not picking these up when they came out. Now I have no room for more figures as I already have a ton on pre-order.

Thanks! ^^
I can understand about no room for more figures. I also have tons of figures coming on pre-order but I don’t have display space for them until end of the year. So they are going to be kept boxed in. And even then, I don’t really have space for the boxes too…-_-”

What lovely pictures. I realize waaaay after the fact that I’d like to own this figure, too. Unfortunately, it’s really hard to go and track one down when the manufacturers keep coming out with stuff or you know that they will come out with stuff and you want to allot some $ for it. Damn you ALTER!

Thanks!
Ya, Makoto is difficult to track down. It took me quite a while to finally get her. There are still other figures in my wishlist I want to track down, but as you said, it doesn’t help with the avalanche of new figures announced. A case of too many figures and not enough money to keep up in my case. ^^”
