Review of Alice Boost Ver.
Posted by ELTboy on August 30, 2009
It’s been a little over four months since my last photoshoot review of any figures. One of the reasons for the lack of photoshoots was space constraints which kept most of my figure purchases boxed in when they arrived. The other reason was probably an apparently lack of desire to do any photoshoot, although I can’t explain why. Perhaps work has drained my desire to do anything that requires special effort and attention.
Anyway, with a sudden renewed desire, I picked up the camera today to do a long overdue photoshoot of one of the few exclusive items in my figures collection – Alice ~ Boost ver.~ by Alter.

This 1/8 scale figure of Alice in her boost state was only available for sales via Hobby Japan magazine mail order which make her an exclusive item for figure collectors. She was released last December although I only got her in March earlier this year. In terms of dollars paid, she is the 2nd most expensive figure in my collection at the moment.
So here is my photoshoot review of the figure (you can click on the photos to view the original size photos).
Alice comes with two whips and two guns although in my photoshoot review, you will only see her with a whip in one hand and a gun in the other. Sorry to say that I am too lazy to go through the hassle of changing the weapons during the shoot. Anyway, what it means is that you can interchange the weapons to depict different variations of her holding the weapons.
Alice Boost ver. is a beautiful and alluring figure whichever way you look at her. One can reckon that since she is sculpted by Alter, it usually guarantees quality. This figure does not default from that, although personally, there are some minor flaws as I will point out at parts of this review.
Here is a look at the face sculpt of the figure. She has a really pretty face especially when you look at her up-close. Yet, I couldn’t help but feel that something is not quite right with the face when I compared her to the illustration on the box. Probably the figure is not meant to look exactly like in the illustration? Anyway, from a figure’s perspective, the face can be considered to be well sculpted I guess.
The hair is probably the hardest part of a figure to sculpt when it is long and voluminous. Alter did a fair job in this part of the figure although parts of the hair looked a little too rigid for me. The finer details for the hair lines could also have been worked into the sculpting of the hair. Maybe I am being a little too picky? ^^”
Next is a look at the body sculpture of the figure.
Sorry to have that oppai starting at you from the photo. That’s probably one of the most noticeable part of her body, so it’s hard to avoid. ^^” Anyway, no complains from me when it comes to her body sculpture. Fans of leather / latex type outfit will be particularly happy with what she is wearing.
As mentioned earlier in this post, Alice comes with two whips and two guns. The whips are similar although bend at different angles. The guns are painted in different colors, blue and silver and comes with nice details on them. For those interested, the whips were actually Alice’s tail when in her loli state. No, she has only one tail, so I am also wondering where the other tail came from.
After the oppai, I wouldn’t forgive myself if I posted a similar size photo of Alice’s pantsu starting directly at my readers. ^^” Anyway, her pantsu barely covers her butt and that probably is an understatement. Apparently, when Alice changes to boost state, everything on her grows except her pantsu. Maybe it’s all in the spirit of Queen’s Blade / Gate. Beautiful rear nonetheless. ^^”
And the last parts of the figure to look at are her legs.
Alice Boost ver. spots a pair of beautiful legs with nice small details. Her right leg connects to the two devilish looking ornaments (wore on Alice’s hair when she is a loli) while her left leg rest on a plastic piece connected to the base to provide support for the figure. Support is good for the figure in my opinion so there shouldn’t be any danger of leaning or breakage.
Overall, she is a figure of high quality in my opinion even if there are parts of the figure which I feel could be better. For fans of the Queen’s Blade / Gate series or the character, she is definitely worth adding to one’s collection although she will be expensive to accquire given her exclusive status. For collectors with space constraint, she will take up a fair bit of shelf space too. For me, I have two figures of the character, this Boost version by Alter and the loli version by Alpha x Omega. Personally though, I still prefer my loli Alice who remains my most treasured figure. ^^
With this photoshoot review, I certainly hope I can substain this renewed interest and does the photoshoots on a more regular basis. My figures all deserve a photoshoot review of their own.

So, how much did you pay for her?

SGD135. Based on the current conversion rates, it’s close to 8,800 yen for her. But she will soon be taken over by quite a few figures in the next few months. -_-”

Not going to be easy getting her for a cheap price. But I guess if it’s you, it’s possible. ^^

Without a doubt a wonderful figure. I saw her at Anime Expo but she’s just so freakin expensive @__@ I think I prefer this over the loli version, but just barely :O

Ya, she is very expensive for places that still have her or on auctions. The amount I paid for her was probably the max I would have gotten to.

I’m with you as being more of a fan of loli Alice too. I guess we share the view that something is not quite right with her face. Still a good figure though.
