2009 Autumn Anime List
Posted by ELTboy on September 4, 2009
It really has been a while since my last post on animes. I have not even been writing down my afterthoughts after completing an anime series. I guess I have just been too lazy. To atone for that, here’s a look at the animes that will be airing this autumn (or fall). Strangely, it might be a little early to be talking about the animes lined up since most of them don’t start airing till October. But anyway, here goes.
All sources and information are courtesy of chartfag.wordpress.com. You can visit the site or click on the image below for the full list. Synopsis are from MyAnimeList.
At first glance, there are quite a lot of animes that I am interested in watching. But I guess I wouldn’t have time to focus on too many and hence needs to be more selective. Animes like Darker Than Black: Ryusei no Gemini and Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza, are both sequels and so they will have to sit on my list for a while until I complete the first season which I haven’t even started. Who knows, if I don’t quite like the first seasons, I wouldn’t even end up watching them. But I think I will like Nogizaka Haruka.
On the other hand, Asura Cryin’ 2 and Queen’s Blade: Gyokuza wo Tsugumono, made my list on default since I completed the first season of each anime. Both weren’t particularly good in the first season, but I will continue watching for the sake of finishing the story. I certainly hope Asura Cryin’ gets better but I don’t harbor much hope for Queen’s Blade. ^^”
So among the new animes, here are the list of animes that will be of priority for me, though in no order of merits.
Seiken no Katanakaji (The Sacred Blacksmith) 聖剣の刀鍛冶 (official site)
Produced by Manglobe – airing starts October 3rd, 2009

Synopsis: Once upon a time, there was a tragic war, in which the power of the devils was involved. After the war, the devils’ power was banned and the world was restored to peace. Cecily Campbell is a knight, who has been looking for a blacksmith to repair her old sword given by her father. One day, she saw a man fighting with a ruffian who used the tabooed devil’s power. The man defeated him with one blow of his weirdly shaped sword. The man turned out to be a blacksmith called Luke. The fateful encounter was the beginning of the adventure.
I saw the preview trailer for the anime and it looks good to me. Sword fighting adventure series are not typically my kind of genre but the actions look good and I particularly like how the lead character Cecily Cambell is portrayed in the anime based on what I have seen in the trailer preview. I know trailers are made to look good, but still I have high hopes for this anime.
Kobato. こばと。(official site)
Produced by Madhouse Studios – airing starts October 6th, 2009

Synopsis: Kobato is sweet and perky girl, but also extremely naive about the world around her. She has a “mission”, which is to fill a mysterious bottle of hers with the suffering from people’s hearts so her wish to go a certain place that she desires to go can be granted. However, she must not fall in love with a particular boy she works with and whose heart she must heal.
I think this anime comes with a fair bit of fanfare since I gathered that there are quite a lot of fans of the manga by CLAMP. I am no longer a reader of manga, so the anime will come completely new to me. Having read the synopsis, I think the anime is going to be one of those that will warm one’s heart and bring a smile to people’s face. It has a feel good factor and I think I will like it. Moreover, I just love naive and silly girls. ^^”
11eyes イレブンアイズ (official site)
Produced by Dogakobo – airing starts October 6th, 2009

Synopsis: Satsuki Kakeru lost his sister by suicide and has been living a dull life ever since then. One day, he is transported into a bizarre world “Red Night” along with his friend Minase Yuka. In order to survive and escape from Red Night, he fights against Dark Spirits (Ralva) and Black Nights.
I am not really sure what to expect from 11eyes. This anime of supernatural fantasy is adapted from a Japanese visual novel (a.k.a. eroge) and probably promises good character designs visually. I saw the OP for the game and it also packs a good sound track which will hopefully translate into the anime. Eroge adaptions tend to be either hits and misses. 11eyes looks interesting to me and so I just hope that it turns out good.
Seitokai no Ichizon 生徒会の一存 (official site)
Produced by Studio DEEN – airing starts October 2009 (exact date not announced)

Synopsis: The members of the student council of Hekiyou Gakuen are chosen by a popularity vote. As a result, all the members are cute girls except for Sugizaki Ken, who studied hard to enter the council. This novel is about the endless chattering of the members with full of parodies of “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”, “Dragon Ball” etc.
Seitokai no Ichizon is adapted from the the light novel series of the same name and the story revolves around the student council of Hekiyou Gakuen, where all the members are moe-some girls except for 1 guy. This high school slice-of-life comedy series should certainly rope in the laughters and I am actually thinking this might be the surprise package of the season, much like K-ON! was last season.
Sora no Otoshimono (Heaven’s Lost Property) そらのおとしもの (official site)
Produced by AIC A.S.T.A. – airing starts October 4th, 2009

Synopsis: Sakurai Tomoki has been having the same strange dream since he was a child and would wake up in tears. Sugita, an upperclassmen at his school, believes the dream to be of the new continent. Later that night, while waiting under the cherry trees for Sugita and Sohara, his childhood friend, an angel, comes flying down.
Sora no Otoshimono (Heaven’s Lost Property) is probably your typical anime that comes with an all too familiar plot of a girl, an alluring angel this time round, falling out of the sky. I think this anime will be the typical harem type anime that promises loads of laughters and a little ecchiness. In fact, the ecchi part is causing a bit of commotion. Promotional posters of the anime were displayed at a railway station during Comiket last month but parts were eventually censored out by the railway officers. And apparently one of the episodes will not be aired on TV as it is deemed “too dangerous”. But I’m sure it’s all being exaggerated. Anyway, I will be watching for the laughters. Serious. ^^”
Nyan Koi! にゃんこい!(official site)
Produced by AIC – airing starts October 1st, 2009

Synopsis: Junpei Kōsaka is a second-year high school student who despises cats and has an allergy to them. It just so happens that his high school crush is Kaede Mizuno, a girl who adores cats. One day, while walking home from school, Junpei kicks an empty can and unfortunately beans the local neko-jizō-sama (guardian deity of cats). He finds he can now understand what cats are saying, including his family’s own ill-tempered cat, Nyamusasu. However, if he does not grant 100 wishes from cats, he will turn into a cat himself.
I saw the promotional video for Nyan Koi! and it looks a good light-hearted series that is suitable after a hard day of work. It should be a warm and at the same time funny series. I mean, how far fetch can it get when someone can actually understand what cats are saying? And that big sparkling eyes of Mizuno should be drawing the crowds in too. ^^
So these 8 animes will kickstart my autumn animes when they all start airing in October. Other animes that I will be keeping a lookout for are Fairy Tail by A-1 Pictures, which comes with a bit of hype, Letter Bee (Tegami Bachi) by Studio Pierrot and Takakau Shisho – The Book of Bantorra by David Production. Hmm… maybe it still seems like I am trying to watch too much.
Anyway, I am certainly looking forward to the new season of animes ahead.

It’s great you’re so happy about the upcoming anime, but me… there is absoloutely nothing I want to watch… >_< Best thing I can say about this season is that that girl in Heaven's Lost Property with the blue hair is really cute, in a Miku-look-alike sort of way.

hehe … I am easy on animes … as long as there are good actions or they can make me laugh, I’m ok. ^^” … You might want to try out the animes for a few episodes to see if you like them. You might just find something good. That’s what I always do.
