Anime Festival Asia 2009, or AFA09 for short, was held over 2 days in Singapore at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is in its second year running and is meant as a celebration of Japanese pop culture. And I’m sure it has been a tiring two days for organizers, exhibitors and visitors alike… I know I am. I trekked the event for 2 days and the aftermath are sore legs and the following field report of my experience this year.

2009 Autumn Anime List
Posted by ELTboy on September 4, 2009
It really has been a while since my last post on animes. I have not even been writing down my afterthoughts after completing an anime series. I guess I have just been too lazy. To atone for that, here’s a look at the animes that will be airing this autumn (or fall). Strangely, it might be a little early to be talking about the animes lined up since most of them don’t start airing till October. But anyway, here goes.
All sources and information are courtesy of chartfag.wordpress.com. You can visit the site or click on the image below for the full list. Synopsis are from MyAnimeList.

Afterthought: K-ON!
Posted by ELTboy on July 2, 2009
I love K-ON! … I guess that probably says it all for me regarding my impression of the anime series. Before the start of the spring anime season, K-ON! was little more than just another series on my watch list which I was hoping would turn out decent. What attracted me to the anime in the first place was just an illustration of a very moe-looking Yui with her guitar. That’s was all and I never expected myself to like it so much.

Afterthought: Queen’s Blade: Rurou no Senshi
Posted by ELTboy on July 1, 2009
Before the anime, what I know about Queen’s Blade was confined to Megahouse’s line of Excellent Core Model figures which in turn are based on Hobby Japan’s original illustrations. They were to me a series of high quality figures and being an avid figures collector, I have amongst my collection quite a few of them. So given my involvement with Queen’s Blade figures, I was naturally very interested when the anime series was announced.

Summer 2009 Anime List
Posted by ELTboy on June 15, 2009
Most of the Spring animes will be coming to an end over the next few weeks and it’s time again to take a look at the upcoming animes that will be airing for this summer season. The lineups announced for the summer season doesn’t look as appealing compared to the spring list, but there’s still quite a few animes that made it to my watchlist.

Afterthought: Claymore
Posted by ELTboy on June 14, 2009
Claymore was recommended to me by a friend quite some time ago but I never got round to watching the anime for a combination of reasons. The lack of a proper source and an avalanche of current animes to catch up were the primary ones. I eventually started watching the anime last Sunday and for the past week, I find myself caught up in the fascinating world of Claymores.
Note: There are spoilers ahead for those that have not watched the anime.

Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody – New Haruhi Episode!
Posted by ELTboy on May 23, 2009
I think most of the anime community is probably abuzz with the news already … a new episode in the re-run of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu! The lastest episode aired in Japan on 21st May 2009, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, is the first entirely new episode in the re-run series.

Afterthought: RideBack
Posted by ELTboy on April 8, 2009
I didn’t know what to expect from Rideback when it was first announced for winter airing. There was a distinct lack of background information regarding the anime then. Even from the synopsis that was available, I couldn’t make out what kind of anime it will be or which genre it fits into. After watching the trailer, I decided to give it a try anyway. And I was pleasantly surprised at how the anime turned out.
Note: Spoilers ahead …

Afterthought: Asu no Yoichi!
Posted by ELTboy on April 6, 2009
Asu no Yoichi! (明日のよいち!) is a light-hearted anime series about a young samurai by the name of Yoichi Karasuma who came to the city to live and train with 4 girls after spending all his life living in the mountains with his father. Based on this short synopsis, it is not too difficult to imagine what the anime would be like. And after finishing the series, I can confirmed that the story is as typical and predictable as can be. But the important thing is that it has been an entertaining anime.

K-ON! First Impression
Posted by ELTboy on April 5, 2009
I just finished watching the first episode of K-ON! and really wanted to pen down some quick thoughts on the anime. I normally would wait until a series finishes before putting my thoughts on the anime into words. But K-ON! has got me really excited.
