Anime Festival Asia 2009

Anime Festival Asia 2009, or AFA09 for short, was held over 2 days in Singapore at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is in its second year running and is meant as a celebration of Japanese pop culture. And I’m sure it has been a tiring two days for organizers, exhibitors and visitors alike… I know I am. I trekked the event for 2 days and the aftermath are sore legs and the following field report of my experience this year.

 

Magazines & a little Spicy Wolf

I went over to Kinokuniya yesterday after placing some pre-orders at my local figures store to see if there was anything interesting to pick up.  Most of the time, I will end up empty handed since I could never get the magazines I want. This time, I was lucky as I bought two magazines which I had been searching for a while and a little spicy wolf decided to come home with me. ^^

More Nendoroid Goodness!

Phat Company’s latest Nendoroid Playset is up for pre-order today! This is their 2nd Nendoroid Playset after the School Life playset and this time, the diorama setting is a Japanese Lifestyle room set. The Playset is divided and sold as 2 separate sets, the Japanese Dining room and Guest room. My Nendoroids now has a place to call home to!

Wonderful Prizes for WonHobby 9

Good Smile Company today revealed the [ Gold ] and [ Silver ] prizes for the winners of their WonHobby 9 photography contest. And the prizes are totally awesome! The Silver prize for both the Figma and Nendoroid sections is a special Miku Hatsune Ita-Camera. And the Gold Prize? A Miku Hatsune Ita-Netbook. Beat that!

Macross Cafe@Cure Maid Cafe

Otaku fandom strikes again! This time round, we have a Macross Cafe special. In conjunction with the upcoming SDF-1 Macross Launching Ceremony event in Akihabara UDX on 22nd February 2009, organizers are collaborating with Cure Maid Cafe for a limited period Macross themed Cafe @ Cure Maid Cafe!

Kuji Club Gurren Lagann Prize Set

After their Code Geass and upcoming Macross Frontier prize set, Banpresto’s Ichiban Kuji Club is set to enthrall fans yet again with the new Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Prize set. The rarity of the prize set is such that one can only win them via a lucky draw. This prize set also seems to tie-in with the upcoming Gurren Lagann ~ Ragan Chapter movie.

Fate/Stay Night iPod

This is as cool a merchandise as it gets – a Fate/Stay Night iPod Classic digital player! I have seen this Fate/Stay Night ipod mentioned somewhere previously although I can’t quite remember where. Anyway, Hobby Channel reports that the player will be released for sale on 28th January 2009 as well as more in-depth information regarding the player.

Macross Frontier Mini Itasha

Hobby Stock brings to us a walk-through on the making of a mini Klan Klang Itasha. I do not have much knowledge about these and is quite amazed at the amount of work required to do up a mini Itasha. I always thought they come ready out of the box! There’s also a look at the soon-to-be released Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee Itasha, as well as upcoming ones from The Idolmaster.
